What's in my July Ipsy Glam Bag? - Day #2
beauty.
Tuesday Review (a week later...)
bareMinerals 5-in-1 Advanced Performance Cream Eyeshadow Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in Divine Wine
I really like bareMineral mineral eye shadows, but I am not a huge fan of cream shadows. However, I was pleasantly surprised by this one. The shadow applied smoothly with great color.
The long-lasting (12 hours +) shadow, with built-in primer and brightening formula, is great used alone or as a primer under your favorite mineral shadow.
Huge bonus: This formula with SPF 15 protects the delicate skin around your eyes from the sun.
At $18, it is a little pricey but is a great splurge item!
Check this and other great products online.

What's in my July Ipsy Glam Bag? - Day #1
beauty.
Tuesday Review:
Nailtini Straight Up Color Nail Lacquer in Mango Rita
I absolutely love this nail polish. It is the perfect color for summer - a nice shimmery peach.
This polish is perfect as a stand alone polish or as a top coat. Unfortunately, the polish is not super long-lasting, so you may have to touch up throughout the week.
Check their nail polish collection online and their other products here. (I received a tini beauty eye shadow in one of my previous Ipsy.)

Green marks be gone - Enjoy costume jewelry more!
bod.
I am a huge fan of costume jewelry because when it comes to jewelry I believe in quantity over quality (with the exception of a few pieces). However, I am not a fan of the green marks cheaper jewelry often leaves behind --- my sparkly bracelets are the worst!
The green coloration is caused by our skin's reaction to the metal and is worse in places that we perspire.
While browsing Pinterest (which I do too often), I found a helpful tip to eliminate this problem.
Tip: Apply clear nail polish to the part of the jewelry that touches your skin --- super easy and cheap fix! The polish puts a barrier between the metal and your skin --- eliminating the marks.
Enjoy!

Be unpopular --- It is what all the cool kids are doing
beauty.
Chapter 4: Be Unpopular
The basic principle of this chapter is to stay true to yourself instead of becoming a people pleasing drone --- which society conditions us to be.
Stop seeking popularity
We are conditioned from a very young age that we should be popular (whatever that even means). Trying to fit in is normal and part of human nature; however, when fitting in morphs into popularity seeking --- making decisions that go against our personal convictions (i.e. gossiping, backstabbing, and so on) turning us into people pleasing drones. Think, Mean Girls.
Instead of popularity (with the wrong crowd), surround yourself with like-minded people who respect, love, and admire you for who you are --- no need to compromise yourself.
Standing up for yourself
You know that moment when you are talking about something you are really passionate about, and your friend is either physically disapproving or verbally disapproving. Like, you can't do that or you aren't strong enough for that. Yes, we have all had those moments.
So, how should you handle this on your journey to your dream? Confront your friend and try to understand why they are being unsupportive by asking "Why do you feel that way?"
Listen. Try to understand where they are coming from. They may just be challenging you which is a great quality. On the flip side, they may be trying to keep you from reaching your goal which is not a good thing. Either way, you have to evaluate how this effects you on your journey.
"Surround yourself with people who edify, inspire, encourage, and challenge."
Making decisions for yourself
When you are working toward your dream, you have to make sacrifices. Sometimes, those sacrifices may include bowing out of events with friends. It sucks, but sometimes you have to stay home instead of going out, you have to work instead of play. Your friends may call you a "fuddy duddy," but you have to be willing to be unpopular to reach your goal.
Your like-minded friends will understand, and if they don't, oh well.
Basically, when we allow our self-worth to be decided by others (including our friends and family), we compromise ourselves, our dreams, and our happiness --- so don't give others the power to your happiness.
Activity: Don't know what you are looking for in a friend? Try creating a "friend" job posting. Make a list of all the qualities you look for in the people around you.
This is the start to my list:
- Encouraging
- Listener
- Funny, keeps me laughing

Be a hard-core chick
beauty.
Chapter 3: Be Hard-Core
Just a refresher. I am that Girl is a book about speaking your truth (owning who you are) and discovering your purpose --- while, forcing you to remember you are good enough. I am going through the chapters and sharing my thoughts with you all. Girl Power!
This was a fantastic chapter to return to because it dives into becoming hard-core about our dreams and the path to achieving them.
Right now, one of my biggest dreams is to lose weight; however, I am dealing with some obstacles. After intensely working out for a couple of weeks and subsequently injuring myself, my doctor has restricted my workouts. This has forced me to reflect on situations (in and out of my control) that have led me to this place in my life (because I think too much). This chapter focuses on excuses, specifically those that hold us back from our dreams. I am holding these steps below very close in mind as I focus on my dream despite my current adversity.
Excuses come in all shapes and sizes - procrastination, fear, pain, and the list goes on. In order to be hard cord about what you want, you simply can not make excuses.
She highlights four steps to becoming hard-core (removing excuses from our lives):
- Let your past hurts fuel your fire.
- Trust yourself.
- Be honest.
- Redefine perfection.
Pain from our past can hold us back. Pain can come in many different forms. For the author of this book, it was in the form of her friend's sudden death. It could be the betrayal of someone close. The list is endless. But instead of using it to place blame or use as an excuse, we have to let that pain go and use it to fuel our fire toward our dreams. A life lesson came out of the pain --- learn it, hold it, and use it to move forward.
You can be your own worst enemy. In order to achieve your dreams, at least one person has to be on your team - you. You must trust that you can achieve your dream --- or you will become your own excuse. How often do we hold back because we don't believe we can do something. I desperately wanted and still want to be a broadcast meteorologist. I can say whatever, but the truth is I never pursued that dream because I didn't trust myself. I didn't trust myself to achieve it, so I took the easy way out - no risk. It is essential to trust that you can achieve your dreams in order to actually achieve your dreams. Don't be your own enemy!
Time is money or in this case, time is your dream. How often do we use time as an excuse for not achieving our dreams? I was just too busy...I had so much going....Instead of packing your schedule full, take the time to really look at your time. Don't let time, which you have control over, become an excuse. Be honest with your friends and family about your time --- then, the time you spend with them will be more meaningful time --- and you can forge on toward your goal.
Approval-seeking and perfection...need I say more? Rip these two excuses off like a band aid immediately. Only seek approval from yourself --- you are the only person that matters. Focus on quality is okay. Obsessing over "perfection" can quickly become an excuse. Don't let anyone tell you what perfection is. Redefine what perfection means. Set new parameters for yourself and remember that perfection lies in imperfection (whatever that means to you).
As a hard-core chick, you must have integrity. Be a person who strives to do the right thing (even when it is difficult) --- stop making excuses for your mistakes and own them. We all make mistakes. We all have shortcomings. Accept them and move on. Integrity is a quality that is highly respected --- and a key part of being hard-core.
Last but not least, dream big --- and live with no regrets. We put self-imposed limitations on our dreams because we don't want to take the leap and fail. Big time excuse. We have to stop making excuses and start allowing ourselves to dream big --- risk big --- to achieve big!
